How I Started Gardening

Welcome Back!

Ever looked at a tiny, awkward space and thought, "How can I garden here"? That’s exactly where I was. Our townhome had a 10x10 cement patio and a skinny 2-foot strip of soil, gardening seemed impossible. But I was determined and that small space turned out to be the perfect start to my gardening adventure.

Researching My Options

Initially, I was drawn to hydroponics, which is growing plants without soil. It sounded cool but also pretty complicated. Not convinced, I dove into YouTube for other options and that’s where I found a gardener using buckets to grow food. It was a game-changer! Growing food in containers seemed perfect for my tiny space and made gardening look not only doable but also fun.

Why I Love Container Gardening

What I found out about container gardening was amazing. You can grow plants pretty much anywhere—on a small balcony, a little patio, or even inside your home. Containers give you control over soil and water, they come in all shapes and sizes with the flexibility to move them as needed. I used old buckets, pots grow bags, and suddenly, my small area was bursting with green. It became my prayer garden and extended haven of refuge and peace.

Challenge for this Week

Here’s a simple way to kick off your gardening journey: start with herbs. They’re perfect for containers and super easy to grow. Head to your local garden center or grocery store, and pick up a few herbs you love, like basil or mint. They’ll add a fresh touch to your cooking and give you a great start in gardening.

Starting a garden might seem tricky, but container gardening makes it simple and fun. Give it a try, and watch your small space become a little green paradise.
